Breaking the Mould - Ex. 2a



Materials
a. Soda-lime glass
> colour: clear
b. Ceramic ribbon
> composition: SiO2 + Al2 O3
> structure: quartz, α-alumina
> T max: ~ 950°C
c. Wooden structure

Dimensions of the final piece
h. 32 cm diam. 35 cm

Objectives
a. Create a holding structure to be used as a mould.
b. Evaluate the heath behaviour of the ribbon.
c. Test possibility to transfer the texture of the ceramic material on the glass.

Process
The glass is blown into a net of ceramic ribbon secured to a wooden structure.

Results
The piece can be easily removed from the mould; undercuts achievable; interesting texture.
