Breaking the Mould - Ex. 2b



Materials
a. Soda-lime glass
> colour: clear
b. Ceramic rope
> composition: SiO2 + Al2 O3
> structure: quartz, α-qlumina
> T max: ~ 950°C
c. Wooden structure

Dimensions of the final piece
h. 20 cm diam. 26 cm

Objectives
a. Create a floating holding structure to be used as a mould.
b. Evaluate the heath behaviour of the rope.
c. Explore the possibility to have undercuts in the design.

Process
The glass is blown into a ceramic rope secured to a wooden structure.

Risultati
The piece can be easily removed from the mould; undercuts achievable; interesting texture.
